Baseball Recap: Chisholm Takes a Loss

Chisholm extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping them down to 20-13. They lost 11-4 to the Newkirk Tigers. Surprisingly, this marked the fifth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor in this series.

As for Newkirk, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-9. 11 seems to be a good number for them as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

For Newkirk's part, Graden Schieber and Garner Wood made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Schieber pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Wood struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Schieber also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Newkirk is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 7-8 otherwise. At bat, Schieber got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs and two RBI, while Wood went 2-for-5 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Vohn Williams and Ladden Schieber did most of the damage at the plate: Williams went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run, while Ladden got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Williams has become a key player for Newkirk: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 7-8 otherwise. Grady Wood was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

Chisholm does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Newkirk, they are taking a road trip to challenge Ponca City at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
