Softball Recap: Independence Knights vs. Frisco Raccoons

Independence had lost nine straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped down to 2-12-1 to make it ten. They fell just short of the Frisco Raccoons by a score of 8-7. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Knights of the 2-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2025.

Megan McCadden led a balanced group of hitters, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Grace Goodwin also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

As for Frisco, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-10. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games.

On Frisco's side, Leija Folauo'o spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered seven runs (all of which were unearned) on seven hits and racked up 12 Ks. Folauo'o has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Bailee Hodnett, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Leila Hathaway was another key player, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
