Basketball Recap: Newberry Academy Takes a Loss

On Monday, Newberry Academy were within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 44-38 to the Pelion Panthers.

John Berned had an outrageously good game for Pelion as he went 7 of 9 on his way to 18 points. The dominant performance gave Berned a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zyan Davis, who posted nine points.

Newberry Academy's loss dropped their record down to 2-3. As for Pelion, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-1.

The future could be bright for both Newberry Academy and Pelion: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. Newberry Academy will try to hand Whitmire their fifth-straight defeat when the two meet at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Pelion will look to extend Ridge Spring-Monetta's three-game losing streak when the meet at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
