Basketball Game Preview: Lopez Lobos vs. Harlingen South Hawks

Lopez is 1-8 against Harlingen South since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Lopez Lobos will head out to challenge the Harlingen South Hawks at 7:30 p.m. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

Last Monday, Lopez was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 56-52 to Weslaco East. While losing is never fun, the Lobos can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1220th, while the Wildcats are ranked 313th).

Meanwhile, Harlingen South was just a bucket shy of victory on Monday and fell 62-61 to Edcouch-Elsa.

Harlingen South now has a losing record at 12-13. As for Lopez, their loss dropped their record down to 10-19.

Lopez was dealt a bruising 71-38 defeat at the hands of Harlingen South in their previous matchup back in December of 2024. Can Lopez avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
