Baseball Game Preview: St. Mary's Knights vs. Boulder Creek Jaguars

The St. Mary's Knights will take on the Boulder Creek Jaguars at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. St. Mary's will be strutting in after a victory while Boulder Creek will be coming in after a defeat.

St. Mary's made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Gilbert, but still couldn't quite topple them. St. Mary's put the hurt on Gilbert with a sharp 8-2 win on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Knights have posted since April 8, 2024.

The team relied heavily on Javier Romero, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4. Bily Lewis was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, Boulder Creek came up short against Red Mountain on Thursday and fell 6-1.

Boulder Creek also got a good showing from Logan Gascoyne, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits.

On the hitting side, Boulder Creek saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Colt Eikleberry, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. That's the most stolen bases Eikleberry has posted since back in March of 2024.

The win made it two in a row for St. Mary's and bumps their season record up to a perfect 2-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Boulder Creek, their loss was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-1.

St. Mary's might still be hurting after the 13-3 defeat they got from Boulder Creek when the teams last played back in February of 2024. Can St. Mary's avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
