Basketball Recap: Lakewood Presbyterian Knights vs. Faustina Academy Falcons
The Lakewood Presbyterian Knights's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their sixth straight loss. They were dealt a 49-21 loss at the hands of Faustina Academy. Lakewood Presbyterian was down 41-13 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Despite the loss, Lakewood Presbyterian had strong showings from Maya Kinson, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds, and Alice Escobar, who scored four points along with three steals. Kinson is crushing the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season.
Faustina Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Grace Denny led the charge by scoring 13 points along with three steals. Denny hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Malia Flood, who scored 12 points along with two steals.
Lakewood Presbyterian dropped their record down to 2-11 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 23.2 points per game. As for Faustina Academy, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 11-5.
Lakewood Presbyterian does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Faustina Academy will head out on the road to challenge the Saints at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Harvest Christian Academy comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 23 points in their last four games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
