Baseball Recap: Monsignor Pace Triumphs

The matchup between Monsignor Pace and Sunset on Tuesday hardly resembled the 2-1 effort from their previous meeting. The Spartans had just enough and edged out the Knights 10-9. The victory continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Knights: they've now won five in a row.

Marco Loreto looked comfortable as he struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Joshua Poletto and Jacob Reyes did most of the damage at the plate: Poletto went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Reyes went 1-for-3 with one home run. Those two stolen bases gave Poletto a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Young, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

Monsignor Pace now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Sunset, they dropped their record down to 6-7 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Monsignor Pace will face off against Chaminade-Madonna at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Sunset, they will take on Florida Christian at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday.
