The Corner Canyon Chargers will head out to square off against the Mountain Ridge Sentinels at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Corner Canyon is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.6 points per game this season.
Corner Canyon is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Utah's top teams: Copper Hills, who was ranked fifth at the time (Corner Canyon was ranked 14th). Corner Canyon received a blow on Thursday as they fell 45-27 to Copper Hills. That makes it the first time this season the Chargers have let down their home crowd.
Sorrelle Nielsen put forth a good effort for the losing side as she posted 14 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Addi Yeomans, who had six points.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mountain Ridge). They blew past Herriman 71-22 on Thursday. The Sentinels have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 23 points or more this season.
Mountain Ridge's win came from a few key players Corner Canyon will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Jada Jangard, who went 5 of 7 on her way to 10 points in addition to eight assists and eight steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kya Newton, who went 7 for 13 on her way to 15 points and four steals.
Mountain Ridge smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in December of 2023.
Corner Canyon's defeat ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 10-4. As for Mountain Ridge, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-5.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Corner Canyon has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 30 boards per game. However, it's not like Mountain Ridge struggles in that department as they've been averaging 23.1 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
