Soccer Game Preview: Banning vs. San Pedro

The Banning Pilots will head out to take on the San Pedro Pirates at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. San Pedro took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Banning, who comes in off a win.

Last Friday, Banning beat Gardena 3-1. Given the Pilots' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 361st, while the Panthers are ranked 960th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, San Pedro fell victim to Narbonne and their airtight defense on Monday. They took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Gauchos. The Pirates have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Banning is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 22 goals over those eight matches. As for San Pedro, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-12.

Banning beat San Pedro by a goal when the teams last played back in January, winning 2-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Banning since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
