Football Game Preview: Lockney Longhorns vs. Gruver Greyhounds + How To Watch

The Lockney Longhorns are taking a road trip to square off against the Gruver Greyhounds at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.

On Friday, Lockney was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 28-22 to Crosbyton. The Longhorns have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Lockney's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Kason Villareal, who rushed for 161 yards and a pair of TDs, and Daniel Alvarado, who rushed for 123 yards and one score. Villareal has become a key player for the Longhorns: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least 80 rushing yards, but 2-5 otherwise.

Meanwhile, Gruver waltzed into their contest last Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Steers 56-14. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 35-7.

A big part of Gruver's win came down to the chemistry between Briggs Satterfield and his top target Nicholas Shepard. Satterfield rushed for 98 yards and three touchdowns while Shepard picked up 112 receiving yards and three scores. That's the most rushing touchdowns Satterfield has posted since back in November of 2024.

Gruver's run defense was locked in: Farwell could only muster 0.6 yards per carry. The Greyhounds' ground attack was stronger, having averaged 5.4.

Lockney's defeat dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Gruver, their victory bumped their record up to 8-2.

Lockney was dealt a bruising 64-12 loss at the hands of Gruver when the teams last played back in November of 2017. Can the Longhorns avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
