Softball Preview: Clairemont Chieftains vs. Academy of Our Lady of Peace Pilots
The Clairemont Chieftains will head out on the road to face off against the Academy of Our Lady of Peace Pilots at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Clairemont is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
Saturday just wasn't the day for Clairemont's offense. They fell victim to a rough 6-0 defeat at the hands of West Hills on Saturday.
Clairemont saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jacqueline Silva, who went 2-for-3 with a stolen base.
Meanwhile, it was a hard-fought game, but Academy of Our Lady of Peace had to settle for a 5-4 loss against Mater Dei Catholic on Saturday.
Alexandra Riggs put in work no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over 6.1 innings pitched. Riggs has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't pitched less than six innings in four consecutive pitching appearances. Riggs was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her six plate appearances with a double and an RBI.
Even though they lost, Academy of Our Lady of Peace didn't let batters stay on the plate for long and finished the game with nine strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mater Dei Catholic only tossed five.
Clairemont's record is now 7-6-1. As for Academy of Our Lady of Peace, their record now sits at 6-6-1.
Clairemont beat Academy of Our Lady of Peace 5-2 in their previous meeting back in May of 2022. The rematch might be a little tougher for Clairemont since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
