Softball Recap: Pleasant Valley's Winning Streak Snapped at 12 Games

Pleasant Valley dropped their record down to 17-6-1 on Friday, which also ended the team's 12-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Foothill Cougars by a score of 3-1. The Vikings were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Cougars earlier this season, when they won 10-2.

Lily Thurman made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run and one stolen base.

As for Foothill, their victory was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-5-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games.

On Foothill's side, Elisea Wiegand spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up 17 Ks. Wiegand has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Foothill's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Sofia Nichols, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one triple. That's the most RBI Nichols has posted since back in April.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Pleasant Valley will face off against rival Red Bluff at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Foothill is set to challenge their familiar foe Chico at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Cougars 3.1, the Panthers 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
