Football Recap: Yorba Linda Piles Up the Points Against Newport Harbor

Yorba Linda won the last time they faced Newport Harbor and things went their way on Friday too. The Mustangs took their matchup with ease, bagging a 41-14 victory over the Sailors. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 28-0.

Yorba Linda's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Noah Trujillo, who threw for 131 yards and one TD while completing 85.7% of his passes, and also punched in one touchdown on the ground. The dominant performance also gave Trujillo a new career-high in passer rating (165.2). Caleb Zamora also helped out with an impressive 81 receiving yards.

Yorba Linda's run defense was locked in: Newport Harbor could only muster 2.9 yards per carry. While two picked up at least six total tackles, Vaughn Sharp stood above the rest. He picked up a sack and made six total tackles (2.0 for loss). Yorba Linda's ground attack was stronger, having averaged five.

Yorba Linda didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Isaiah Trujillo and Tanner Melvin.

When it comes to explaining why Newport Harbor lost, don't look at Jackson Stremick. Despite the final result, he picked up 89 receiving yards and one score. Stremick got the majority of those receiving yards when he pulled down a pass and took off for a gain of 63 yards.

The win made it two in a row for Yorba Linda and bumps their season record up to 7-2. The victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 28 points in those games. As for Newport Harbor, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-7.
