Softball Recap: Mount Vernon's Win on Monday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Mount Vernon entered their tilt with Commerce on Monday with two consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with three. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Commerce an 11-0 shutout. Considering Mount Vernon has won seven contests by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Kelsey Barron was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in hits. Another player making a difference was Kajmiere Foster, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI.

Barron wasn't the only one working in the home run department: Mount Vernon lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Mount Vernon's victory bumped their record up to 12-4-1. As for Commerce, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-10-1.

Looking ahead, Mount Vernon will head out to square off against Chisum at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Commerce, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Commerce Tigers face off against Rains Wildcats at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday. They have given up an average of 9 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
