Softball Game Preview: Payne Tech Lions vs. West Orange Mountaineers

The Payne Tech Lions will challenge the West Orange Mountaineers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Payne Tech came up short against Bergen Tech on Thursday, falling 11-1. The Lions have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Payne Tech saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Leidy Soto Leyba, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI. That double was Soto Leyba's first of the season.

Meanwhile, after some red-hot attacks at the plate in their last five contests, West Orange finally came back down to earth on Wednesday. They lost 14-2 to Montclair. The game marked the Mountaineers' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Payne Tech's loss dropped their record down to 4-2. As for West Orange, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 5-1.

Payne Tech couldn't quite get it done against West Orange when the teams last played back in May of 2023 as they fell 8-5. Can the Lions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
