Recap: Carrizozo Grizzlies vs. Animas Panthers
The Carrizozo Grizzlies lost against the Animas Panthers back in February of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Carrizozo was the victim of a tough 55-33 loss at the hands of Animas. Carrizozo has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Carrizozo's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gabriela Saenz, who scored 8 points. Another player making a difference was Bryana Villanueva, who scored 9 points.
Among those leading the charge was Journey Sheehan, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 14 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Laikyn Davenport, who scored 16 points.
Carrizozo's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Animas, their victory bumped their record up to 1-0.
Carrizozo will take on Navajo Pine at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Navajo Pine focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Thursday. Animas won't have much time to rest: their next game is against To'hajiilee at 2:30 p.m. on December 1st. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in New Mexico (To'hajiilee is ranked 67th, while Animas is ranked 68th).
