Volleyball Recap: Whittier Christian Takes a Loss

Whittier Christian was the 3-0 winner over Maranatha when they last played one another back in March, but their luck changed this time around. The Heralds took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Minutemen on Thursday.

Whittier Christian was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Maranatha work for it, especially in the first set. The final score came out to 27-25, 25-27, 25-18, 25-21.

Leading Maranatha to victory were Blake O'Brien and Simon Li. O'Brien had 11 digs and three aces, while Li had 17 kills, 11 digs, four aces, and one block. That's the most digs O'Brien has posted since back in March of 2024. Zach Shin was another key player, getting 17 assists and five digs.

Whittier Christian has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-16 record this season. As for Maranatha, their record is now 5-11.

Coming up, Whittier Christian will head out on the road to face off against Village Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Maranatha, they will host Southwestern Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
