Baseball Game Preview: Meadowbrook Monarchs vs. John Marshall Justices

The Meadowbrook Monarchs will take on the John Marshall Justices at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Meadowbrook will bounce into Tuesday's game after beating L.C. Bird, who they had gone 0-7 against in their seven prior meetings. Meadowbrook had just enough and edged out L.C. Bird 10-8. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Monarchs.

Nick Vaughan and Tre Turner made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Vaughan pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Turner struck out six batters over 2.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. At the plate, Vaughan scored two runs while going 1-for-3, while Turner scored two runs and stole three bases.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jefferson Cruz Espinal, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Another was Jariel Velasquez-Quezada, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, John Marshall gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Monday. Everything went their way against Charles City as John Marshall made off with a 15-3 victory.

Like Meadowbrook, John Marshall also got a great game from a two-way player: Jackson Cobb. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off one hit. That's the most strikeouts Cobb has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-2.

In other batting news, Brice Johnson and Dwayne Ferrer did most of the damage at the plate: Johnson scored three runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-2, while Ferrer scored three runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-3. Oscar Carroll was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 1-for-2.
