Recap: Gateway Christian vs. Hampton Christian Academy Warriors
Gateway Christian lost against the Hampton Christian Academy Warriors back in February, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Gateway Christian was beaten by Hampton Christian Academy 82-30. Gateway Christian was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 45-15.
Gateway Christian's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jacob Holestin, who scored 10 points. Holestin continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Matthew Johnson, who scored 7 points.
Leading Hampton Christian Academy to victory were Sean O'Connor and Bryce Harris. O'Connor scored 28 points along with 6 rebounds, while Harris dropped a triple-double on 10 points, 10 assists, and 11 steals. The matchup was O'Connor's eighth in a row with at least ten points. Asher Joyce was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with 5 rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Gateway Christian and nudges their season record down to 4-2. As for Hampton Christian Academy, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 8-0.
Gateway Christian will be playing in front of their home fans against Broadwater Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Broadwater Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Wednesday. As for Hampton Christian Academy, they will square off against Lafayette at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.
