Basketball Game Preview: Grenada Chargers vs. Olive Branch Conquistadors

Grenada hasn't had much luck against Olive Branch recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Grenada Chargers will be playing at home against the Olive Branch Conquistadors at 7:30 p.m. Grenada is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.3 points per game this season.

Grenada is headed into Tuesday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Tuesday. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 46-42 heartbreaker at the hands of Coahoma County. While losing is never fun, the Chargers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 198th, while the Red Panthers are ranked 37th).

Grenada's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Zayion Cotton, who posted seven points, and Garan Edwards, who put up seven points and 13 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Grenada smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in five consecutive games.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Olive Branch). They blew past Saltillo 93-71 on Thursday. The win was nothing new for the Conquistadors as they're now sitting on four straight.

Olive Branch is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.9 points per game. As for Grenada, their loss dropped their record down to 2-14.

Grenada took a serious blow against Olive Branch when the teams last played back in December of 2024, falling 71-36. That match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Grenada was down 47-17.
