Softball Recap: Coginchaug Regional Wins Going Away Against Portland

Coginchaug Regional never let their opponents score on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 12-0 margin over the Portland Highlanders. The result was nothing new for the Blue Devils, who have now won six games by eight runs or more so far this season.

The result came thanks to Emily Allen's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up 17 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Coginchaug Regional got a big performance out of Mackenzie Bearor, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most hits Bearor has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Gabby Marques, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Coginchaug Regional kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive matchups.

Coginchaug Regional is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Portland, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-10.

Coginchaug Regional has already played their next game, a 3-0 defeat against St. Bernard on the 12th. As for Portland, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 13-1 loss against Westbrook on the 12th.
