Basketball Recap: Williams Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Williams had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They were the clear victor by a 57-31 margin over the Cedar Ridge Fighting Red Wolves on Friday. The Bulldogs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Williams' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ry'Leigh Surles, who went 6 for 11 en route to 18 points and five assists. Those 18 points gave Surles a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordyn Taylor, who went 5 of 10 on her way to 11 points and four steals.

Surles wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Williams was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cedar Ridge only posted four assists.

Kate Finnegan and Kassidy Tolliver certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Finnegan posted six points in addition to six rebounds and three steals, while Tolliver almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine boards.

Williams' victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-6. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.3 points per game. As for Cedar Ridge, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-7.

Williams didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 56-50 win against Vance County on the 20th. As for Cedar Ridge, they will challenge Person at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
