Baseball Game Preview: Ankeny Hawks vs. Dowling Catholic Maroons

The Ankeny Hawks will venture away from home to take on the Dowling Catholic Maroons at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Ankeny will be strutting in after a win while Dowling Catholic will be coming in after a loss.

Ankeny had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the six-run drubbing they dealt North Scott on Saturday. The Hawks blew past the Lancers 12-6. The Hawks not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since June 14th (when they won 11-1).

Meanwhile, Dowling Catholic faced Indianola in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Maroons came up short against the Indians, falling 15-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Maroons have suffered since June 22, 2024.

Ankeny's victory bumped their record up to 9-19. As for Dowling Catholic, their loss dropped their record down to 10-7.

Ankeny suffered a grim 13-1 defeat to Dowling Catholic in their previous meeting on June 11th. Can the Hawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
