Which state has produced the most NBA Draft first round picks over the last decade?

By Staff Report Jun 21, 2017, 11:00pm

Texas and Georgia aren’t just football states; Demise of hoops in the Hoosier State has been greatly exaggerated.

Video: 2017 NBA Draft Way Back When
Looking back at the high school careers of Lonzo Ball, Malik Monk, Jayson Tatum and more.

What a run it's been for native Californians in the NBA Draft.

Over the past decade, the Golden State has produced 29 first round draft picks. Included in that bunch are current NBA stars James Harden, DeMar DeRozan, Paul George, Klay Thompson, Kawhi Leonard and Damian Lillard.

Thursday night in Brooklyn should be another big night for California as natives Ike Anigbogu, Jordan Bell, Lonzo Ball, Tyler Dorsey, T.J. Leaf, Ivan Rabb and D.J. Wilson have all been mentioned as first-round possibilities.

Eight other states averaged at least one first round pick per draft over the 10-year span we studied from 2007 to 2016.

Come to find out, Texas and Georgia aren't just football states and the demise of hoops in the Hoosier State has been greatly exaggerated.

Don't look for Alaska, Delaware, Hawaii, Idaho, Maine, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, Rhode Island, South Dakota or Vermont on this list. Those 12 states haven't produced a first round pick in the last decade.

See a complete state-by-state breakdown of first round draft picks from 2007 through 2016 below.

One quick note, transfer situations are tricky. Instead of erroneously crediting New Hampshire with players that stopped off at Brewster Academy before college or Virginia for Oak Hill Academy products, we made an effort to track back to prior stops and true home states.
