Baseball Recap: Kingston Comes Up Short

Kingston had lost four straight at home, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 2-15 to make it five. They fell just short of the Newburgh Free Academy Goldbacks by a score of 5-4. That's two games in a row now that the Tigers have lost by just one run.

Kingston saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jack Purvis, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Jake Martino was another, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

As for Newburgh Free Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-5-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games.

On Newburgh Free Academy's side, DJ Clifford tossed a big game, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off eight hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Chris Leggett, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Mason Hoover, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Kingston will host Wallkill at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Newburgh Free Academy, they will be playing at home against Chester at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
