Soccer Recap: Wasatch Gets the Win

Wasatch had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.7 goals) and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. While the 1-1 score might suggest a draw, it was the Wasps who were credited with the victory. The Wasatch Wasps got it done in the shootout by posting four goals to the Orem Tigers' three. Given Wasatch's advantage in MaxPreps' Utah soccer rankings (they are ranked 16th, while Orem are ranked 63rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Wasatch has now won 10 of their last 11 games at home. That gives them a 7-3 record this season. Those home wins came by way of their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 32 goals over those 11 matches. As for Orem, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 16 of their last 20 contests, dating back to last year. That leaves them at a 3-7 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wasatch will challenge Deer Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Orem, they are on the road again on Tuesday to play Provo at 7:00 p.m. Provo's last three games have been decided by no more than a goal (dating back to last season), so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
