Softball Recap: Aurora Central Trojans vs. Englewood Pirates

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Mullen, Aurora Central was happy to have turned things around on Friday. Everything went their way against the Englewood Pirates as the Aurora Central Trojans made off with a 12-6 victory. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Trojans considering their two-run performance the match before.

Stephanie Gomez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off nine hits. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 6 strikeouts per game. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 4-for-5.

In other batting news, Aniyah Baltazar was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Juliana Marquez, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5.

Aurora Central's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Englewood, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.

Aurora Central is on the road again on Monday to play Centaurus at 4:00 p.m. As for Englewood, they will face off against Jefferson Academy at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Englewood has given up an average of 12.5 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
