Baseball Recap: Martin County West Takes a Loss

Martin County West had lost ten straight at home dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 1-6 to make it 11. They lost 9-3 to the Cleveland Clippers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Clippers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-1 on April 8th.

Preston Cepress was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs. Another player making a difference was Jacob Wilmes, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

As for Cleveland, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games.

On Cleveland's side, Alex Kortuem spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits.

On the hitting side, Brennan Kortuem was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Miles Tomaszewski was another key player, going 1-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

Coming up, Martin County West is taking a road trip to square off against Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Cleveland, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Martin Luther/Truman at 4:30 p.m.
