Football Game Preview: Leon Cougars vs. Bruceville-Eddy Eagles

The Leon Cougars will venture away from home to square off against the Bruceville-Eddy Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Leon has four straight wins, Bruceville-Eddy has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Leon is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past Cross Roads, posting a 55-0 victory. Give the Cougars' defense some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.

Landon Thomas went supernova, rushing for 118 yards and one score on only six carries, while also throwing for 120 yards and a pair of TDs on only 11 passes. Matthew Lim was another key player, rushing for 57 yards and two touchdowns.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Leon was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 422 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since the start of last season.

Meanwhile, Bruceville-Eddy came up short against Normangee on Friday and fell 13-6.

Bruceville-Eddy's defeat dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Leon, their win bumped their record up to 4-0.

Leon took their victory against Bruceville-Eddy in their previous matchup back in September of 2024 by a conclusive 46-20 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
