Basketball Recap: Rio Rancho Extends Winning Streak to Three

Rio Rancho extended their winning streak to three games thanks to a huge performance from Madilynn Martinez. The Rio Rancho Rams walked away with a 66-54 victory over the Cleveland Storm on Thursday for which the team can thank Martinez, who shot 53% from the field on her way to 26 points in addition to five assists and four steals. That's the most points she has posted since back in December of 2024.

Larissa Martinez was another key player, putting up nine points along with five boards and five steals. She has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last ten times she's played.

Savannah Madueno and Reagan Westenberger certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Madueno went 5-for-7 en route to 16 points, while Westenberger scored ten points and seven rebounds. Erin Winters also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Rio Rancho's win bumped their record up to 17-9. As for Cleveland, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-13 record this season.

Rio Rancho wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 69-34 victory against Cibola on the 24th. As for Cleveland, they have also already played their next contest, a 64-56 loss against Piedra Vista on the 24th.
