The Leeds Greenwave will venture away from home to take on the Clay-Chalkville Cougars at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
While Greenwave fans will have to keep waiting for their team to come home, they shouldn't be too worried about the road trip considering the result of Tuesday's season opener. They blew past McAdory 11-1 on Tuesday.
Conner Nelson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. What's more, he also gave up only two walks, the fewest he's had since back in March of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run and six RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Grayson Ford, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. Another player making a difference was Nash Jones, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one triple.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Clay-Chalkville challenged Minor on Tuesday. Clay-Chalkville put the hurt on Minor with a sharp 12-2 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Cougars have posted since February 24, 2024.
Like Leeds, Clay-Chalkville also got a great game from a two-way player: Semaj Snow. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Snow was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, D'Marques Kendrick was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3. Nic Youngblood was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Leeds beat Clay-Chalkville 10-7 in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Will Leeds repeat their success, or does Clay-Chalkville have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
