The McCutcheon Mavericks are taking a road trip to square off against the Lake Central Indians at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. McCutcheon knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past three matchups -- so hopefully Lake Central likes a good challenge.
McCutcheon is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing Kankakee Valley: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that McCutcheon blew Kankakee Valley out of the water with a 78-44 final score. The Mavericks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine contests by 21 points or more this season.

Brody Baker was his usual excellent self, en route to 36 points. His big performance that afternoon made it 11 games in a row in which he has scored at least 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Souligne, who posted 13 points and six assists.
McCutcheon smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kankakee Valley only six offensive boards.
Meanwhile, Lake Central suffered their biggest loss since December 27, 2024 on Friday. They had to suffer through an 80-49 loss at the hands of Crown Point. While losing is never fun, the Indians can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 153rd, while the Bulldogs are ranked seventh).
McCutcheon will have to contain Zachary Greene as he made an impact in Lake Central's last game. He on his way to 22 points and eight rebounds. Greene has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Noah Enyeart, who scored nine points and five boards.
McCutcheon is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.1 points over those games. Lake Central has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: McCutcheon has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 26 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Lake Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging 22.8 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
McCutcheon lost to Lake Central on the road by a decisive 66-49 margin in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Can McCutcheon avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
