Basketball Game Preview: Yucca Valley Trojans vs. La Quinta Blackhawks

The Yucca Valley Trojans will be taking part in a tournament against the La Quinta Blackhawks at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. Yucca Valley has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Having struggled with nine losses in a row dating back to last season, Yucca Valley turned things around against Cathedral City on Tuesday. They strolled past the Lions with points to spare, taking the game 65-50. The Trojans' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

While La Quinta didn't have the best season last year (they finished 4-22), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They slipped by Coachella Valley 1-0 on Tuesday. The one-point effort marked the Blackhawks' lowest-scoring match of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

La Quinta pushed their record up to 7-2 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 24.3 points per game. As for Yucca Valley, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-8.

Everything came up roses for Yucca Valley against La Quinta in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, as the team secured a 65-38 victory. Will Yucca Valley repeat their success, or does La Quinta have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
