Basketball Recap: Hillsboro Takes a Loss

Hillsboro's tournament run continued when they took on Mattoon on Monday. The Hillsboro Hiltoppers took a 66-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mattoon Greenwave. The Hiltoppers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Hillsboro still got an impressive performance from Nathan Matoush, who went 7 for 16 on his way to 22 points and seven rebounds. That was a full 41.5% of Hillsboro's points, marking the third time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Tony White, who went 6 of 9 en route to 17 points.

Hillsboro's defeat dropped their record down to 9-9. As for Mattoon, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-14.

Hillsboro has already played their next match, a 60-56 loss against Greenville on the 21st. As for Mattoon, they will venture away from home to square off against Pana at 7:30 p.m. on January 28th.
