Softball Recap: Borrego Springs Comes Up Short

Borrego Springs lost against Julian back in April, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Rams lost 17-4 to the Eagles. The contest marked the Rams' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Kayla Rodriguez and Lylamae Gutierrez did some serious damage despite the final result: Rodriguez got on base in three of her five plate appearances with five stolen bases, two runs, and one double, while Gutierrez got on base in four of her seven plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Gutierrez is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Vanessa (Dulce) Morales, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two RBI.

Borrego Springs has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season. As for Julian, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-12.

Coming up, Borrego Springs will face off against Calipatria at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The Hornets have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15 runs per game on average), something the Rams will no doubt try to take advantage of. Julian does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
