Basketball Recap: Eastern Randolph Comes Up Short

Eastern Randolph was the 41-35 winner over Lexington when they last played one another back in November of 2021, but their luck changed this time around. The Eastern Randolph Wildcats had to suffer through a 69-38 loss at the hands of the Lexington Yellowjackets. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 360th, while the Yellowjackets are ranked 86th).

Eastern Randolph's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Callie Craven, who went 5 for 12 on her way to 13 points and four steals, and Raegan Beaver, who went 6 of 15 on her way to 13 points in addition to six rebounds and five steals. Those 13 points gave Craven a new career-high.

Lexington was led to victory by Makayla Bobo and Lily Ervin. Bobo dropped a double-double on 27 points and ten steals, while Ervin almost dropped a double-double on 24 points and nine boards. With that strong performance, Bobo is now averaging an impressive 16.2 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Maliyah Johnson, who posted seven points along with five boards and three steals.

Eastern Randolph's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Lexington, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 6-0.

Eastern Randolph will square off against Currituck County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Currituck County's defense has only allowed 30 points per game this season, so Eastern Randolph's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Lexington, they will take on South Davidson at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Lexington is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.5 points per game this season.
