Basketball Recap: Cheyenne Mountain Wins Going Away Against Niwot

On Saturday, the Cheyenne Mountain Red-Tailed Hawks made easy work of the Niwot Cougars and carried off a 67-45 victory. The Red-Tailed Hawks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four contests by 22 points or more this season.

Cayden Cooper continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, putting up 22 points and eight rebounds. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 15.3 points per game. Mccoy Huckstep was another key player, going 6 for 8 en route to 12 points.

Cheyenne Mountain smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Despite the loss, Niwot still got an impressive performance from Sebastian Stenz, who made all 5 shots he took for 11 points. Emmett Verhoogen also deserves some recognition as he scored his first points of the season.

Cheyenne Mountain's win bumped their record up to 10-3. As for Niwot, they dropped their record down to 4-10 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road.

Cheyenne Mountain will venture away from home to take on Lewis-Palmer at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Lewis-Palmer knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past three games -- so hopefully Cheyenne Mountain likes a good challenge. As for Niwot, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 55-22 loss against Centaurus on the 21st.
