Baseball Recap: Greater Johnstown Takes a Loss

Greater Johnstown was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-7 heartbreaker at the hands of the River Valley Panthers. That's two games in a row now that the Trojans have lost by just one run.

Manny Hill made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that he launched this season. Another player making a difference was Heinz Petak, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one RBI.

Greater Johnstown's defeat dropped their record down to 1-8. As for River Valley, their victory ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-8.

Greater Johnstown and River Valley could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings. The Trojans (ranked 571st) will meet Central Cambria (ranked 40th) at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, River Valley will take on Northern Cambria at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank disadvantage (548 vs. 74).
