Basketball Game Preview: Lafayette Lions vs. Sulphur Golden Tors

Lafayette has won three straight games at home, while Sulphur has won three straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Friday. The Lafayette Lions will host the Sulphur Golden Tors at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Tuesday, Lafayette earned a 52-42 win over New Iberia.

Meanwhile, Sulphur hadn't done well against Barbe recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Sulphur came out on top against Barbe by a score of 47-34. Given the Golden Tors' advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 28th, while the Buccaneers are ranked 96th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Sulphur has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 30-6 record this season. Lafayette's victory bumped their record up to 21-15.

Lafayette strolled past Sulphur in their previous matchup back in January of 2024 by a score of 50-33. Will Lafayette repeat their success, or does Sulphur have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
