Softball Recap: Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs vs. Hillsboro Indians
Lynchburg-Clay extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 14-6 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-0 heartbreaker at the hands of the Hillsboro Indians. As for Hillsboro, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 18-3. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 10 runs.
For Hillsboro's part, not much got past Camryn Spruell, who gave up just two hits and racked up 17 Ks to keep Lynchburg-Clay off the board. Spruell has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Hillsboro's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Choe Roberts, who went 1-for-2 with one run.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lynchburg-Clay will be taking part in a tournament against Peebles at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Hillsboro, they will be playing at home against Vinton County at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
