Baseball Recap: Giles Wins Going Away Against Craig County

Giles's game on Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Craig County Rockets as they made off with an 11-1 win. The high-scoring effort was just what the Spartans needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.

Miles Eppling was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). Eppling was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jacob Mills, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Giles: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 0-7-1 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Josiah Schlueter, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double.

Giles' record now sits at 3-7-1. As for Craig County, their defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 0-7.

Looking ahead, Giles will take on Auburn at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles' pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so the Spartans' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Craig County, they will venture away from home to take on Eastern Montgomery at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Rockets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mustangs have averaged an impressive 10.7 runs per game this season.
