Softball Recap: Shaker Heights Continues Road Dominance on Thursday

Shaker Heights had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 14-run drubbing they dealt Firestone on Thursday. The Red Raiders were the clear victors by a 15-1 margin over the Falcons. Considering the Red Raiders have won six matchups by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Scout Harvey made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). Harvey was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Emerson Miller, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two doubles, and one triple. Those doubles were her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Eleanor Miller, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

Shaker Heights kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive games.

Shaker Heights pushed their record up to 7-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Firestone, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

When Shaker Heights and Firestone next hit the field, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. The Red Raiders will square off against Brunswick and their four-game winning streak at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Firestone will try to stop Kenston's three-game winning streak when they meet at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
