Volleyball Game Preview: Cleveland Storm vs. Farmington Scorpions

Cleveland is a perfect 5-0 against Farmington since September of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Storm will head out on the road to challenge the Scorpions at 6:00 p.m. Cleveland will be strutting in after a win while Farmington will be coming in after a defeat.

Having struggled with three losses in a row, Cleveland turned things around against Cibola on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over the Cougars.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-12, 25-15, 25-18.

Cleveland can attribute much of their success to Molly Maurer, who had 23 assists and five digs, and Aspen Maxey, who had 12 digs and two aces. Maurer is on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 13 or more in each of the last 37 games she's played dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Farmington faced Rio Rancho in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Scorpions lost 3-0 to the Rams. The Scorpions have struggled against the Rams recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

The final score came out to 25-13, 25-17, 25-17.

Farmington's defeat dropped their record down to 9-5. As for Cleveland, their victory bumped their record up to 8-6.

Everything went Cleveland's way against Farmington in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as Cleveland made off with a 3-0 win. Will the Storm repeat their success, or do the Scorpions have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
