Basketball Recap: Marie Philip Comes Up Short

If Marie Philip was feeling good fresh off their 66-38 takedown of Rhode Island School for the Deaf last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Marie Philip Galloping Ghosts took a 53-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of Varsity Opponent on Friday. The Galloping Ghosts were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced Varsity Opponent earlier this season, when they won 63-53.

When it comes to explaining why Marie Philip lost, don't look at Xavier DeLeon. Despite the final result, he posted 20 points and seven assists. DeLeon is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last 52 games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Andrew Riebe, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten boards.

Marie Philip's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 14-8.

Marie Philip will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on New York School for the Deaf at 1:00 p.m. on February 21st.
