Softball Game Preview: Clay-Chalkville Cougars vs. Shades Valley Mounties

The Clay-Chalkville Cougars are taking a road trip to square off against the Shades Valley Mounties at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

It was a proper cat-fight when Clay-Chalkville took on Fairfield on Monday. Clay-Chalkville never let Fairfield get on the board and left with a 16-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won five matches by 11 runs or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Shades Valley, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Monday. They blew past Minor 19-3 on Thursday. The Mounties are also no stranger to big wins: their blowout was the third game they've won by 6+ runs this season.

Kharly DeLaine was a standout: she scored four runs while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Carleigh Blackwell, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Shades Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March of 2024.

Clay-Chalkville's record now sits at 5-1-1. As for Shades Valley, their record is now 3-1.

Clay-Chalkville came out on top in a nail-biter against Shades Valley in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, sneaking past 8-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for Clay-Chalkville since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
