Softball Game Preview: Paraclete Spirits vs. Lancaster Eagles

Paraclete is a perfect 3-0 against Lancaster since February of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Spirits will be playing at home against the Eagles at 3:15 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Lancaster will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Paraclete extended their winning streak to three last Thursday. The Spirits were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over California City. That's two games straight that the Spirits have won by exactly ten runs.

Meanwhile, it was a Battle of the Birds when Lancaster faced off against Palmdale on Thursday. The Eagles blew past the Falcons 19-2.

Cassandra Velasquez made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jordyn Zinn, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three stolen bases, and five runs. Those five runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sam Salas, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Lancaster is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Paraclete, their win bumped their record up to 20-2-1.

Paraclete took their victory against Lancaster in their previous meeting back in March of 2023 by a conclusive 7-0 score. Do the Spirits have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
