Softball Recap: Downingtown East Sets Scoring Season-High Against Henderson

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Downingtown East). Everything went their way against the Henderson Warriors on Monday as Downingtown East made off with an 11-3 victory. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Cougars with their most commanding win of the season.

London Schaefer made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). Schaefer was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one double.

In other batting news, Sophia Gange was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Madison Baroni, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.

Downingtown East always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .535. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.

Downingtown East is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. Henderson's loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 0-7.
