Baseball Recap: Perry Central Extends Winning Streak to Three

Perry Central had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 14-2 margin over the Mount Olive Pirates.

Masyn Nobles looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in February.

On the hitting side, Perry Central let Cayson Backstrom and Austin Jones run wild. Backstrom scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Jones scored two runs and stole four bases while going 3-for-4. What's more, Backstrom posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in February of 2024. Brandon Sumrall was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-1.

Perry Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .400 or higher in three consecutive games.

Perry Central's win bumped their record up to 8-11. As for Mount Olive, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season.

Perry Central is taking a road trip to challenge St. Patrick at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mount Olive does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
