Baseball Game Preview: Woodlawn Warriors vs. Patapsco Patriots

Woodlawn hasn't had much luck against Patapsco recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Warriors will venture away from home to take on the Patriots at 4:00 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Woodlawn took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against Carver A&T, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Warriors had just enough and edged out the Wildcats 8-7 on Tuesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Warriors.

Jacob Howard made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jayden Johnson, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Marquis McGhee also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Meanwhile, Patapsco came tearing into Tuesday's match with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.9 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 10-9 W against the Bay Hawks. Ten seems to be a good number for the Patriots as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Patapsco pushed their record up to 8-1 with the win, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 14.9 runs this season. As for Woodlawn, they picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 2-5.

Woodlawn might still be hurting after the 14-4 defeat they got from Patapsco in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Warriors avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
