Baseball Game Preview: Holden Rockets vs. Albany Hornets

The Holden Rockets will venture away from home to challenge the Albany Hornets at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Holden is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.

Holden gave up the first runs on Wednesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They came out on top against Assumption by a score of 13-9.

Colton Lewis was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over 4.2 innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Holden is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-3 otherwise. Lewis was also big at the plate, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with two RBI and one double. What's more, he posted two hits, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Caden Rivett and Isaiah Fields did most of the damage at the plate: Rivett scored a run and stole Four bases. while going 2-for-4, while Fields scored two runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Rivett is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played. Nate Garcia also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, Albany had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They walked away with a 10-5 win over the Tornadoes.

Holden pushed their record up to 5-3 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 9.67 hits in those games compared to only 3.6 in the others. As for Albany, their record now sits at 5-6.

Holden suffered a grim 11-0 defeat to Albany when the teams last played back in April of 2019. Can Holden avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
